Luxemburry / Culture / Luxians on Snow
Article VII of the Charter requires that every child of the Realm be taught to ski, at no cost, before the seventh winter. Luxians on Snow, founded by Zevi Abselet II in 2021, is how the Realm keeps that article, and it is the reason the national sport is national.
The oldest part of the program is older than the program. The Council of the Peaks has not sat on a winter Saturday since 1723, and the custom spread from the Council to the whole Realm. On Ski Saturdays the offices on Charter Square close at noon and the lifts run until dark.
Sentinels off duty, racers, and any Luxian who has passed the instructors' descent, a timed run of the family slopes. The High Warden teaches one class a season himself, on the slopes where he learned.
Zevi the Great surveyed the Realm on skis, and the five valleys had moved on skis for as long as anyone recorded. The Realm was never going to be a country that drove; it was always going to be a country that skied. Luxians on Snow makes sure it stays one.
The snow endures. Every Luxian learns it by seven, and the Realm skis every Saturday of the winter.
