Luxemburry / Government
The Realm of Luxemburry is a constitutional monarchy. Executive power rests with the High Warden, laws are made by the Council of the Peaks, and justice is administered by the High Court of Justice, all under the Charter of 1723.
Luxemburry has been governed from Valdoria since the Unification of 1723. The Charter, read aloud in Charter Square on June 12 of that year, set out a form of government that has changed little since. It divides authority among three bodies, each with a seat in the capital.
The High Warden is the head of the executive and the guardian of the Charter. The office is hereditary within the Abselet Dynasty, and its holder takes a regnal name on assuming it. The present High Warden, Zevi Abselet II, has held the office since 2020.
The Council of the Peaks is the legislature. Its delegates are chosen from the five regions of the realm, allocated by population, and it sits in the Council Hall in Valdoria. By custom the Council does not sit on Ski Saturdays between December and March.
The High Court of Justice is the highest court. Its three judges are appointed for life by the High Warden on the recommendation of the Council, and they sit in the Court House on the north side of Charter Square.
Citizenship of the Realm is not applied for. It is conferred by decree of the High Warden, on the invitation of the Office of Citizenship. Each citizen receives a numbered Certificate of Naturalization, an entry in the Register of Citizens, the Realm Ski Pass, and a seat at the Winter Solstice feast. New citizens are announced in Valdoria on Warden's Day, March 21, and on the day of their naturalization.
The realm is small enough that most of its institutions can be walked between in a morning. The Warden's House, the Council Hall, the Court House, and the Office of Citizenship all stand on or beside Charter Square. The Mountain Sentinels, the elite guard of the realm, keep the square and patrol the high passes, on skis in winter. The Luxfranc, issued by the Treasury of the Realm, is the only legal tender. The flag, the coat of arms, and the anthem are set out on the page for national symbols.
Decrees of the High Warden and notices of the Council are published as News and Decrees. The Office of the High Warden may be reached at Government@Luxemburry.eu.
